When I am put under pressure, my heart tends to run toward food, laziness, and mindless media consumption. But, at the end of the day, I find myself left alone with broken promises. It doesn’t comfort. Instead, it piles on guilt, feelings of failure, and unwanted consequences. O Lord, I pray that I would run to you every time I feel something like that. I know I can count on regularly being in situations that are full of pressure on this side of eternity. Teach me to find my rest in you. Help my eyes to see your beauty and greatness. May you be the full source of my peace. I pray that I never forget that you are the God of ALL comfort.
God, you alone are my rock and my salvation. If I don’t learn this, I will constantly be turning to things and people feel secure. When the waters of life swell around me like a raging sea— you are my safety. You are the only one I can truly turn to. I must preach this to my soul every day. I forget easily and quickly. Help my heart to remember and fully trust in you. You are my only hope.
For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah Psalm 62:2-3;8
